Innanzitutto, il gatto è un predatore e il suo istinto, anche se addomesticato, permane. È questo il motivo per il quale micio può "attaccarci" a una gamba o una mano, facendoci a volte anche male ma senza l'intenzione di farlo ovviamente.
Si tratta di un
gioco predatorio, di un istinto alla caccia che non si sopisce solo perché il gatto vive in casa con la sua famiglia umana. A volte, però, diventa importante gestire al meglio questi agguati e non solo se con il gatto convivono bambini piccoli ma anche perché micio viva in una condizione di benessere e soddisfazione.
Riconoscere un agguato felino è piuttosto semplice (e affascinante). Micio, infatti, prima osserva con estrema attenzione e concentrazione poi di solito mette in movimento la parte posteriore del corpo e, infine, balza e attacca. Le parti "umane" per lui più divertenti come prede sono i piedi e le mani. Gli agguati felini sono più comuni nei cucciol, proprio perché l'istinto predatorio ha bisogno di sfogarsi.
Come fare quindi per evitare di farsi male? Prima di tutto, quando accade è consigliabile non reagire per far finire immediatamente questo tipo di gioco. E, al contempo, fornire a micio spunti per "attaccare" e giocare in modo innocuo: giochi di agilità, scatole, casette, tiragraffi, giochini-preda e anche postazioni interessanti da cui osservare il mondo e la realtà che sta fuori di casa.
